Hello Modular World friends!
Johno ask me in a comment to explain how I have prepared the reels for the West project which was recorded during a journey through the US national parks in October 2024. At each stage of the journey, I set up a small Eurorack pod based on three classic MakeNoise modules: Morphagene, Mimeophon and Wogglebug, and recorded a short piece with my zoom H1.
I have produced most of the reels at home before the journey. Each reel was created as a short ambient piece, with the idea that it must be very listenable on its own. Then, I uploaded it in Logic Pro in order to create the markers and save the reel in the format required by Morphagene.
The process is the following: (1) split the track on main transitions or interesting events, (2) create the markers from regions (logic pro command), and then (3) bounce the project using the 32 bit 48 khz format. Remember that the maximum length must be 2.9 minutes or less. The last step is to rename the wav file using the Morphagene convention (mg0.wav, mg1.wav, etc.) and put it on its SD card. Check that when the reel is loaded, Morphagene recognizes the markers.
That’s it, you are now ready to mangle it with Morphagene.
One more thing: for some of the tracks, I have added some field recording and use it in addition to the existing reel, and created some markers on the fly with Morphagene.
Thanks so much for showing your workflow! Morphagene is the magic, but as with all samplers - it's what you're putting in them that matters. This collection of yours is just stunning. A real gift.
